35 years since Romania’s revolution and appraisal in memory and film
Conferences + Photographic Exhibition + Video Installation + Glimpse into Film
On December 14, 2024, the “Echoes of Freedom” event will take place in London to commemorate 35 years since Romania’s revolution of 1989. This special occasion will feature a mix of conferences, a photographic exhibition, a video installation, and a glimpse into the critically acclaimed film “The New Year That Never Came,” directed by Bogdan Mureșanu. The event seeks to appraise Romania’s revolution from both memory and film perspectives, providing a unique opportunity to reflect on the impact of those pivotal historical moments.
Prominent figures such as historian Dennis Deletant, filmmaker Bogdan Mureșanu, and Romanian journalist Liviu Mihaiu will lead insightful discussions on various aspects of the revolution. The event will cover topics including the Romanian Revolution through British eyes, the role of film in shaping historical narratives, and much more. Attendees will also have the chance to view a photographic exhibition, along with video installations showcasing the revolution in powerful visual form.
The program will run from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM at East London Arts and Music, and entry is free. This is part of a series of events that will take place in various cities across the UK. Join us in remembering and exploring the revolution that forever changed Romania.
